I am puerto rican and as a child ate this. I know it has corn meal, milk, salt, sugar, butter, vanilla but how much of each. Am I missing something? I love this and would love to make it for my kids. Help with harina de maiz.

I have posted a recipe that I grew up with, check it out and let me know if it was helpful.

Harina de Maiz

1c. Harina de maiz fina
4c. Hot water
4tsp. salt
2c. cold milk
1c. sugar
1 stick of butter
Cinnamon (optional) but recommended

Heat water, milk, salt, butter, and sugar on medium heat stirring frequently til the butter dissolves. Slowly add the harina de maiz and keep stirring so it doesn't 'ball' up. (This happens if you let it boil). Turn heat up, pour into bowls and sprinkle with cinnamon. Let cool for 1/2hr before eating.

The trick to this is tweak to your taste. My grandmother and mother would add extra harina to thicken it more. To stir, I use a slotted spoon to prevent lumps from being served into bowls. Sometimes you will get a few lumps depending if you stopped stirring or the heat is not exactly on med, or even the pot you use. I use a stainless steel sauce pan with no issues.

Good Luck!
